The Annan 1st XV finally play at home on Saturday when they host Wigtownshire up at Violetbank
Its been 12 weeks since the lads last venture onto the Violetbank pitches and 5 weeks since their last match!
The 1st XV find themselves rooted to the bottom of the West 1 table with 4 matches to play. To have any realistic chance of staying up the 1st XV need to win this match, next week’s against Oban Lorne (also at Violetbank) and then beat fellow strugglers Strathaven at Strathaven the week after.
Even then they will need other results to go their way, namely Kilmarnock and Oban beating Strathaven,
Annan do have one final match to pick up points in their last match of the season, but this is away to unbeaten and already crowned West 1 Champions Ardrossan. If Annan do need to win to have a chance of staying up though, you know the lads will give it their all.
The above is also assuming no teams being relegated from National 4 are from the West Region and as it stands I think this is the case. This means, I believe, only 1 team will go down from West 1 to West 2. If it is 2 going down then Annan can still stay up but would need a few more matches to go their way and Annan will probably need to win 4 from 4!
The team have been showing glimpses of their potential this season and if the team can put on a full 80 minutes display on Saturday then the start of the Great Escape will be on.
A loss and it’s not all over, but Annan would have 1 foot and a few toes in West 2
Game kicks off at 3pm and the players and coaches would, as always, appreciate a big loud home support to cheers the lads on.
