RUGBY MATCHES
1ST XV FINALLY BACK AT VIOLETBANK
It’s been a long time coming but the 1st XV are finally back at Violetbank after 6 weeks on the road as they welcome Cumbernauld for match 8 in the West 1 season.
The newly promoted North Lanarkshire team started the season on fire with 3 wins from 3 but have since lost their last 3 matches to drop down the league to 6th
Annan, on the other hand, lost their first 5 matches but have since won 2 on the bounce and are now up into 8th.
The teams have met 7 times over the years, and Annan have a 100% winning record, but the last meeting was 10 years ago, so this will be a new team for players to be pitted against and past victories will mean little.
The Annan players and coaches will be wanting to make it 3 wins on the trot and take that form into the following weeks’ National Shield home clash against the Bookies favourites to lift the Shield, Carrick
2pm kick-off
2ND XV IN DERBY MATCH
The 2nd XV are also at home on Saturday as they welcome Hillhead Jordanhill to Violetbank.
It’s been a tough few matches for the mighty twos, but under the guidance of Coach Heughan, the fairly young team (with a few old guard) are getting all-important rugby minutes under their belts, which is always a good thing.
Last week’s scoreline did not reflect the team’s effort, with a couple of “tries” incorrectly ruled out, showing that this team can score points when they click.
2pm kick-off
YOUTH TEAMS IN ACTION
On Sunday, 3 youth teams are in action
The U13 Boys are off to Cartha Queens Park while the U14 Boys are off to Ardrossan. Both to take on the hosts and other teams.
While the U18 Girls are with the D&G U18 Girls team as they host Currie U18 Girls at Stewartry. 12pm kick-off at Greenlaw
Best of luck to all the teams this weekend.
