RUGBY MATCHES

1ST XV IN BACK MATCH ON THE ROAD

The 1st XV are back in action as they are on the road once again for a West 1 league match on Saturday

Even this early in the season, it’s a classic 10-pointer, with opponents Greenock below Annan at the bottom of the West 1 league; a win for Annan could potentially move Annan 7 points clear of Greenock, but conversely a win for the hosts and they could go 3 points clear of Annan and leave Annan at the bottom of the West 1 table.

So all to play for and the players and coaches will be hoping to build on the win last time out against East Kilbride.

This match will be Annan’s 5th away match in 7 games! The team do finally have a home match the following Saturday against West 1 newcomers Cumbernauld

2pm kick-off

2ND XV IN DERBY MATCH

While also on Saturday, the Annan and Dumfries 2nd XV’s will fight it out for league points, bragging rights, but more importantly, for the A.A. MacPherson Memorial Trophy.

The A.A. MacPherson Memorial Trophy is in memory of Alex “Mac” MacPherson, who was Annan Rugby Club President in 1983-1984 and an Annan Rugby mainstay for many a year.

The trophy is a 2 legged affair, with the return leg at Violetbank in the new year.

Annan will be hoping to get their first win of the season, but a derby match against the Saints is always tough.

3pm kick-off

THE WARRIORS IN NATIONAL SHIELD ACTION

The Warriors are back at Violetbank on Sunday as they welcome Hillhead Jordanhill 2nd XV to Violetbank for the 2nd time this season.

This time its for the 1st match of the National Shield.

The teams met last month in the league when the Warriors won, but the Warriors have since lost 2 matches in the league and know they will need to find the form that gained them that win again if they want to have a winning start in the National Shield

The National Shield group has 4 teams, and after Sunday’s match, the team will face Lochaber and Aberdeenshire Quins, both at home and away. Plus Hillhead on the road.

For the record, if Warriors Ashley Clark plays on Sunday, Ashley will become only the 3rd Warrior to reach 100 appearances for the team. Top effort Ashley,

2pm kick-off

Best of luck to all the teams this weekend.
