The 1st XV host East Kilbride at Violetbank on Saturday in their last league match of the season.

Its been a disappointing season for the 1st XV who never managed to get a decent run or even a settled team.

38 players have played for the 1st XV in the 17 league and 1 shield matches this season with only 4 players having an 100% appearance record – Captain AJ, Aaron Carmichael, James Kirby and Josh Whiteside.

Saying that, the last 9 league matches (bar the loss versus league winners Garnock and our home win over Carrick) have all been close affairs with on average 7 points separating the teams, with Annan being on top on 4 occasions.

So on their day, the 1st XV can challenge any team in West 1 (bar Garnock!) but have just not shown enough of that throughout the season.

Saturdays opponents East Kilbride are having a mixed season as well, but have come onto a purple patch at the right time and have made it to the Shield Final at Murrayfield in May.

The teams met in the 1st league match of the season with Annan coming out top 27-22 and a similar scoreline on Saturday would at least end the season on a high.
