1ST XV ON THE ROAD TO STEWARTRY

STOP PRESS: The lads go down to a record 68-7 defeat v Stewartry. The only bright spot being a Keiran Warrick try in the 2nd half.

Brief match report now online.

After a 5 week break, the 1st XV are finally back in action as they travel to Castle Douglas to take on promotion chasing Stewartry in their latest West 1 match which also doubles up as the Chisholm Cup 2nd leg match, in which Stewartry hold a 29-5 lead after the 1st leg at Annan earlier on in the season.

Stewartry go into this match as big favourites with the Greenlaw club still in with a decent shout for promotion while Annan are rebuilding for next season.

Looking back at the records, Stewartry are on their ever best run v Annan with them aiming for their 5th straight win on Saturday.

Annan had won 14 of the previous 17 encounters going back to 2006, so things have changed over the last couple of seasons!

For Annan they have reached the halfway point of the season with 5 wins and 5 defeats from their 10 matches. The Annan lads are not safe from the relegation battle and will need to pick up a few more wins from the last 10 matches to secure survival in West 1 for season 2022/23

Its a derby match though, so sometimes form can go out of the window and it should be a cracking match up at the Greenlaw on Saturday.

Kick off at 3pm

Annan starting 1st XV: R Glass, K Warrick, K Watret, M Thompson, F Hope, C Taylor, H Houldey, S Haren, A Carmichael, J Whiteside, M Thorburn, R Hetherington, A Torbett, E Haley, J Kirby

Annan subs: W Gray, R Armstrong, C Smith, E Campbell.

2ND XV HOST CAMBUSLANG

STOP PRESS: Unfortunately the 2nd XV match has been POSTPONED. Covid in the Cambuslang ranks.

For the Annan 2nd XV it’s also been a 5 week break from rugby action but on Saturday they are back and at Violetbank as they host Cambuslang in their latest West Reserve 3 (South) match.

Its been a strange old season for the 2nd XV as they are one of the few teams in the league to put out a team for each of the matches but when they do, they often come up against clubs whose 1st XV are not playing that weekend and therefore come up against a bolstered 2nd XV.

So on Saturday it will be great to see two proper 2nd XV teams in action. Should be a great match up.

The 2nd XV only have 3 matches left in the league this season and this match is their last home league match of the season so a big Annan support would be most appreciated.

Kick off at 3pm

Annan starting 2nd XV: TBC

Annan subs: TBC

YOUTH TEAMS IN ACTION ON SUNDAY

STOP PRESS: Unfortunately the U15 Boys match is now OFF. Lack of player numbers at Annan. 🙁

On Sunday we will have 6 squads in action if all goes well

At Violetbank the U12 & U14 Girls host various teams from around the region in the latest Girls Rugby Festivals being held this season. All starts at 11am

While on the road, the U15 Boys hope to bounce back after last weeks defeat to Marr Rugby as they travel to Birkmyre. Kick off 2pm.

While last, but by no means least, the mightiest teams in the club, the P1-P3, P4-P5 & P6-P7 Tigers are on the road to near neighbours Dumfries. Meet at 10am for the 10.30am start.

Best of luck to all the teams this weekend,
