RUGBY TRAINING

Training is on this week for all Age Groups

New players with any or no experience are always welcome.

Our current training schedule is as follows. 

WALKING RUGBY – ALL AGES:  Monday at the Violetbank – 6pm to 7pm

U6-U12 BOYS/GIRLS: Sunday at Violetbank – 10am to 11am.  Dumfries Rugby. 10.30am to 11.30am

U13-U14 GIRLS: Wednesday at Violetbank – 6.30pm to 8pm. 

U13-U14 BOYS: Thursday at Violetbank – 6.30pm to 8pm. 

U15-U16 GIRLS: Wednesday at Violetbank – 6.30pm to 8pm. 

U15-U16 BOYS: Thursday at Violetbank – 6.30pm to 8pm. 

U17-U18 GIRLS: Tuesday & Thursday at Dumfries Rugby – 6.45pm to 8.30pm

U17-U18 BOYS: Tuesday & Thursday at Violetbank –  7pm to 8.30pm

SENIOR WOMEN: Tuesday & Thursday at Violetbank – 7pm to 8.30pm

SENIOR MEN: Tuesday & Thursday at Violetbank – 7pm to 8.30pm

RUGBY MATCHES

1ST XV ON SHIELD DUTY

The 1st XV take a break from league action as they travel to Stranraer to face Wigtownshire Rugby in the 1st round of the SRU National Shield.

Wigtownshire are currently in the league below Annan but have a played 3 won 3 record and sit at the top of West 2. Annan have yet to win a competitive match this season and sit bottom of West 1.

The West Coast team beat Annan last year at Violetbank in the same stage of the competition and will be favourites for this tie

Its been a tough start for Annan and they will know that to get to the 2nd round of the shield, they will need to produce an 80 minute performance. Something thats been lacking so far this season.

2ND XV ON THE ROAD

The 2nd XV are hopefully on the road to Allan Glens this weekend and hopefully it will be 3rd time lucky and they 2nd string get their league campaign underway.

The 2nd XV leagues across Scotland have been struggling this season, with 25 of the 58 scheduled matches being cancelled due to lack of players. The SRU stats say that player numbers are up but that is not the case as 2nd XV is slowly dying on its feet bar at a number of favoured clubs.

Without wholesale changes its only going to get worse.

The senior men have been hit by a number of injuries over the past month but it hoped that there will be enough available that the match can go ahead.

WARRIORS WELCOME HILLHEAD JORDANHILL 

The Annan Warriors had a tough old match last week when they were defeated by a record score by Oban Ladies at Oban.

Hillhead Jordanhill 2nd XV, along with Oban and Stewartry, are all on 10 points with 2 wins from 2. The league winner is most likely to come from these 3. It’s unfortunate for the Warriors that their first 3 matches will have been against the 3 in-form teams in the league.

With several experienced players expected to return to the starting XV on Sunday, and with Violetbank being a ground the Warriors have a very good record on, the coaches and players will be hoping that the Warriors can pick up some points, if not the full 4 or 5 points on Sunday.

For the record the other 2 teams in the league are Lenzie and Bishopton, and along with the Warriors, its these teams that will be battling to avoid the relegation spot. The Warriors 4 matches against Lenzie and Bishopton are the matches that will determine if the Warriors will be playing West 1 or West 2 rugby next season.

YOUTH TEAMS IN ACTION

There are plenty of Youth teams in action on Sunday

The mighty U6-U12 Tigers are off to Dumfries. 10.30am start

The U13 Lads are at Violetbank taking on Lanark and Cambuslang/Uddingston. 12.30pm start.

The U14 Lads are away to Greenock taking on the hosts and others. TBC start

And finally, the U14 Girls are away at Wigtownshire. TBC start
