1ST XV START THEIR SHIELD CAMPAIGN

Ah well. Next year lads!

Match Report, photos, tries and the full match – Now Online

On Saturday the 1st XV take a break from the West 1 League battles to have a bash at the National Shield

They have been drawn at home against East Kilbride. The teams met just a few weeks ago in the league when the black and amber of Annan came out on top.

The teams have also met in the Shield on 2 occasions over the years in 2011 and 2012 when Annan also came out on top in both matches

The Annan lads will need to be on the top of their game though, and put last weeks heavily defeat behind them, if they are to come away with the win and set up a derby match in the 2nd round against Wigtownshire.

With quite a number of players on the ever growing injury list, the starting team may have a few more enforced changes but we do have some decent strength in depth just now with the 2nd XV lads stepping up on a regular basis to fit in well with the 1st XV.

3pm KO up at Violetbank

Annan 1st XV squad: 1 Ryan Glass 2 Callum Bell 3 Kieran Warrick (C) 4 Frazer Hope 5 Oli Ferdinand 6 Eben Le Vin 7 Mason Watret 8 Ryan Hetherington 9 Ben Latimer 10 Josh Whiteside (VC) 11 Alex Jones 12 James Kirby 13 Aitken Render 14 Ewan Campbell 15 Aaron Carmichael 16 Murray Forbes 17 Stewart Livingstone 18 Ryan Armstrong 19 Max Thorburn 20 Andrew Jancey 21 Sean Armstrong 22 Juan Phyfer

2ND XV IN TOP OF TABLE CLASH

STOP PRESS: The 2nd also lose, 29-21

Points: Callum S (T). Lex (T, 2C), Drew (T), Ross B (C)

Ah well, onto the next one lads.

Match Report and Highlights – Now Online

The 2nd XV are also at home on Saturday but on league business as they welcome 2nd placed Ardrossan to Violetbank.

With 3 wins and a walkover win, the 2nd XV still proudly at the top of West Reserve 2 with 19 points and a win on Saturday would put quite a distance between them and the 2nd placed team with 7 games to go.

Will be a tough match though as Ardrossan are also flying high with 2 wins out of 2 in the league but confidence is high in the 2nd XV squad but like the 1st XV, injuries are taking their toll but you know the team will be giving 100% to make it 4 wins on the trot.

3pm KO up at Violetbank

Annan 2nd XV squad: 1) Craig Bell 2) JJ Mackay 3) Callum Taylor 4) Kieran Riches 5) Drew Thorburn 6) Calum Smith
7) Andrew Shepard 8)Kieron Watret  9) Simon Dix (C) 10) Lex Stevenson(VC) 11) Ross Barlow 12) John Glendinning 13) Ben Conroy 14) Scott Muir 15) Danny Lockerby 16) Craig Stefaniuk 17) Liam Boyd 18) Gordon Henderson 19)James Morrison 20)Jack Ogilvie

WARRIORS AWAY TO 3RD PLACED IRVINE

STOP PRESS: Alas Irvine do not have the player numbers available so the match is unfortunately OFF

The Warriors are also sitting at the top of their league with 3 wins from 3 but like the senior men, injuries have been plenty for the Warriors so far this season.

On Sunday they travel to Irvine. Irvine Ladies are sitting on 2 wins and a loss and the North Ayrshire team will know that if they are have a chance of promotion then they cannot afford to lose any more matches.

For the Warriors, this is the start of 3 tricky away matches in a row that if they can get through with a decent points haul (and no more injuries) would sit them well for the run in of 1 away and 3 home matches.

But as the saying goes, 1 match at a time, and this match will no doubt be one of the toughest matches of the season for the Warriors, who will need to be on top of their game if they want to return home with the win.

For the records. the teams have never met before in the league or cup competitions

2pm KO at Marress, Irvine.

YOUTH SQUADS IN ACTION

Another busy weekend with 6 youth sections in action on Saturday and Sunday

On Saturday the U18 Boys start their National Bowl competition away to Livingston. With both teams sitting on 3 points (after both were awarded the wins against Dalziel) – a win would put the Annan team through to the 2nd round of the Bowl Competition. 2pm KO

While on Sunday the 3 Girls squads are all in action.

The U14 Girls are away to Carrick along with Wigtownshire. The U16 Girls are away to Carrick in their penultimate National Shield group match. While the U18 Girls are off to Wigtownshire to team up with the D&G U18 Girls as they take on East 1 U18 Girls.

The U13 Boys are off to Paisley for a rugby festival.

Last, but by no means least, the P1-P7 teams are at Violetbank taking on their counterparts from over the border, Carlisle. 10.30am start.

Best of luck to all the teams this weekend
