THIS WEEK AT ANNAN RUGBY
But training continues all week for all ages
New players of any or no experience always wanted and welcome.
See https://annanrugby.com/our-teams/ for more info.
At the weekend we have 9 squads/teams in action if all goes well.
On Saturday the 1st XV and 2nd XV are in action plus the U18 lads are playing with Cumnock Boys
While on Sunday the U14 Girls, U14 Boys, Warriors and the P1-P3, P4-P5 and P6-P7 squads are all in action.
With home matches on Saturday and Sunday.
1ST XV HOST LENZIE ON SATURDAY
STOP PRESS: The lads go down 26 v 22 to Lenzie. 19-10 down at halftime, Annan won the 2nd half but fell just short.
2 bonus points for Annan though so not all bad! Annan points from 2 Neal Coupland tries, a Ryan Armstrong try and a James Kirby try. Josh Whiteside with one conversion.
On Saturday we welcome Lenzie to Violetbank in the latest West 1 league match.
After last Saturday’s defeat by Cambuslang the 1st XV will be wanting to get back to winning ways but it will be no easy task against Lenzie.
The Dunbartonshire side have had a tough start to the season and have lost 2 from 2 but took league favourites Stewartry close last Saturday and were unlucky not to get something from that game. Not many will score as many points against the Greenlaw club this season!
Against Lenzie, Annan have a decent record with 7 wins from the last 10 matches, however Lenzie did win the last meeting last season 26-10 and have their 3 wins from the last 5 meetings.
For Annan it will be a changed team with a number of players attending the wedding of Warrior Kim Taylor but the players available will no doubt be up for it.
For the record if Sean Haren takes to the pitch on Saturday it will be his 200th appearance for the 1st XV since his debut back in 2010. Congratulations Sean.
Note the kick off is 2pm
Starting 1st XV: TBC
1st XV Replacements: TBC
THE 2ND XV ARE ON THE ROAD AGAIN
STOP PRESS: The lads lose 58-27. 39-10 at HT it was a much closer affair in the 2nd.
Scorers were Bradley James, Aitken Render 3, John J McKay and 1 conversion from Finley McCartney
Enjoy the beers lads and great to see Annan 2nd XV players still willing to travel to get a game. #ProperRugbyPlayers
The fixtures have not been kind to the 2nd XV this year (are they ever!), and the lads are on the road again on Saturday when they travel to Ardrossan.
The first round of matches started last week and of the 6 fixtures, only 2 were fulfilled. Not a great start once again for the reserve leagues but hopefully things will pick up as the season moves on.
The 2nd XV were also defeated last week by Cambuslang and will be wanting to get their season back to winning ways but at home Ardrossan are a tough nut to crack.
Should be a great game.
Kick off: 3pm
Starting 2nd XV: TBC
2nd XV Replacements: TBC
THE WARRIORS HOST HAMILTON LADIES
STOP PRESS: Alas the match is off as Hamilton Ladies could get the numbers to travel to Violetbank.
The Warriors are at home on Sunday as they entertain Hamilton Ladies in the rearranged league match from 2 weeks ago.
Again it will be a new look to the Warriors team with a number of players unavailable.
The teams have not met before at this level and both will be wanting to impress.
For the Warriors, despite the loss to the Claymores a few weeks ago they still have a great chance of being near the promotion places come the end of the season and will be wanting to get back to winning ways against the South Lanarkshire team.
The Hamilton Ladies have had a tough start to the season and suffered heavy defeat to Greenock last Sunday but the Warriors will need to be on top of their game to get over a tough Hamilton side.
A big Warrior support would as always be most appreciated.
Players to meet at Violetbank at 12.30pm for the 2pm KO
Starting Warriors XV: 1 A Clark (vc), 2 M Brogan, 3 E Jardine, 4 H Paterson, 5 M Muir, 6 R Parker-Clevett, 7 A Cole, 8 S Wylie, 9 N Barlow (c), 10 L Glendinning (vc), 11 I Cook, 12 L Stevenson, 13 J Clark, 14 S Leesing, 15 K Morrison
Warriors XV Replacements:16 B Nelson, 17 M Cother, 18 L McGregor
YOUTH TEAMS IN ACTION
STOP PRESS: Great fun was had by all at the P1-P7 Festival while the U14 Girl and U14 Boys both lost but played some great rugby
There are 6 teams in action at the weekend as the season starts to pick up after a quiet start.
On Saturday, 3 U18 Boys are off to join Cumnock U18 Boys in their latest league game while on Sunday 5 teams take to the pitches.
At Violetbank, the P1-3, P4-5 and P6-P7 squads host teams from around the region in a Rugby Festival at Violetbank. 10.30am start,
While the U14 Boys host near neighbours Moffat in a 12.30pm kick off.
On the road, the best team in the club just now, the U14 Girls are away to Penrith Girls. Kick off: 1pm
Best of luck to all the teams this weekend.
