THIS WEEKEND AT ANNAN RUGBY

FOR FRIDAY 5TH, SATURDAY 6TH & SUNDAY 7TH NOVEMBER 2021

QUIETER WEEKEND FOR ANNAN RUGBY

Last weekend was decimated by the weather and only 1 match survived. Was a great match by the 2nd XV though who travelled to Cambuslang and came away with a 11 tries to 6 win.

All the other planned matches succumbed to the weather.

This weekend we have potentially 5 squads in action if the weather holds!

On Friday evening, the U14-U18 Girls are off to Stewartry for a Girls Rugby Festival.

On Saturday the 1st XV host Lenzie and the U18 Boys entertain Strathaven/Dalziel while on Sunday the Scotland v Australia match is on at 17 Bank Street.

Door open at 2pm for the 2.15pm KO. All welcome

The clubhouse will also be open from 3pm on Saturday for some after match beers, banter and showing the other Autumn International matches that are on.

The 2nd XV, Warriors XV, U14 & U16 Boys and P1-P7 Tigers do not have matches this weekend.

U14-U18 GIRLS OFF TO STEWARTRY ON FRIDAY EVENING

STOP PRESS: The U14 Hornets squad had a great evening winning 2 of their 3 matches while the U17 Girls joined Stewartry and Newton Stewart and won 1 of their 2 matches. Top notch stuff Hornets.

The always busy U14-U18 Girls are in action on Friday as they travel through to near neighbours Stewartry to take part in a Girls rugby festival.

The Girls have been consistently one of the top squads in the club and will no doubt be bringing their A-game once again to the Greenlaw.

Start time TBC but will be a great evening rugby showcasing Girls Rugby teams from around the region.

If you are free on Friday evening, why not pop along and support the mighty Hornets.

1ST XV HOST LENZIE ON SATURDAY

STOP PRESS: The lads ran in 6 tries to 1 to beat Lenzie 36-8. Well played lads.

Brief match report now online with photos and match highlights to be added later on this evening.

After a short break, the 1st XV are back in action as they host Lenzie at Violetbank on Saturday.

Lenzie are currently above Annan in the league table by 1 point and are having a mixed season so far.

Both Annan and Lenzie need to win this match if they are to have any chance of fighting for the 1 promotion spot come season end.

After their last outing v Stewartry, the Annan players will be wanting to get back to the form they showed earlier in the season and put the poor Stewartry performance behind them.

It will be a tough match again Lenzie who are travelling down to Violetbank for the 5th time. Annan have won 3 of the 4 Violetbank encounters and 8 of the 9 meetings between the teams but the matches are usually very close affairs.

With the exception of the 1st meeting down at the Everholm in 1994. The average points scored between the teams is 17-15.

No doubt on Saturday it will be another close encounter but it

should be a great match of rugby with both teams needing the win.

Kick off on Saturday is 2pm.

A big loud Annan support would be most appreciated as always.

17 Bank Street will also be open from 3pm for the after match beers and banter and will be showing the Autumn International matches

Starting XV –  1: Ryan Glass, 2: Kieran Warrick, 3: Aiden Craik, 4: Daniel Robson, 5: Michael Thompson, 6: Harry Houldey, 7: Callum Bell, 8: Sean Haren (Captain), 9: Aaron Carmichael, 10: Josh Whiteside, 11: Elliot Haley, 12: Jonny Callaghan, 13: Alex Halliday, 14: Ryan Hetherington, 15: James Bigham

Its been a tough season so far for the lads who have not yet won a match but the team is getting better ever game and that elusive win can not be far behind.
