Training for all age groups is on all week.

At the weekend we have potentially 5 teams in action if all goes well

On Saturday the 1st XV travel to East Kilbride to start their West 1 League season while on Sunday the Warriors, U18 Girls and U16 Boys are all on the road while the U14 Girls have a home derby match v Stewartry.

Plus 4 U18 Boys are joining Cumnock on Saturday.

Busy week for Annan Rugby.

1ST XV TRAVEL TO EAST KILBRIDE

STOP PRESS: East Kilbride 22 v Annan 27 – Wee bonus point win on the road. Nice! – Tries from Aaron, Neal C, AJ and James Park with Josh adding 2 conversions and a pen. – Enjoy the beers lads.

After last week’s great win over Carrick in the Shield, it’s back to or rather the start of league business on Saturday for the 1st XV as they travel to East Kilbride for their Tennent’s West 1 league opener.

East Kilbride are also the team Annan face in the 2nd round of the Shield on the 29th October – so will be an interesting match up.

East Kilbride have been a bit of a bogey team of late for Annan and the last time they beat East Kilbride at Torrance House was back in 2012 in the Shield. The last time in the league was 2008.

Annan did win in the last encounter at Violetbank back in March though.

A few Annan players have decided to leave for pastures new over the close season and so a few players will be stepping up for the 1st XV this season as Annan aim to get off to a winning start to the league season.

After Saturday’s match, Annan welcome Carrick back to Violetbank on the 10th September.

Players to meet at 12pm at Violetbank

WARRIORS OFF TO CARTHA QUEENS PARK

STOP PRESS: The Warriors go down 60-0 to a very experienced Cartha side. Onto the next one. Match Report Now Online

After last weeks match v Oban Lorne was awarded to the Warriors 28-0, the Warriors now sit on top of West Region league 1

The Warriors would have no doubt liked to have gone top on the playing field but will be now be wanting to stay on top for as long as they can.

They start with a tough away match to Cartha Queens Park 2nd XV also known as Cartha Claymores. Cartha’s Ladies 1st XV play in the Premier Division and their 2nd XV are one of the strongest teams in the league despite their 2nd XV mantle!

Cartha Claymores won their opening league match last Sunday with a thumping win over Hamilton Ladies and will be wanting to claim top spot for themselves.

The Warriors have played Cartha 1st XV on 2 occasions though – both in 2018 and they won both matches – the away match a 53-41 thriller! So the Warriors will be wanting to continue their 100% record on Sunday.

Players to meet at Bank Street at 10.30am for the 2pm KO

Starting XV: 1 A Clark (vc) 2 S Taylor, 3 E Jardine, 4 H Paterson, 5 M Muir, 6 R Parker-Clevett , 7 A Cole, 8 H Clark, 9 N Barlow (c), 10 L Glendinning (vc), 11 I Cook, 12 L Stevenson, 13 J Clark, 14 S Leesing, 15 K Morrison.

Replacements: 16 M Cother, 17 M Brogan, 18 L McGregor

YOUTH TEAMS IN ACTION

STOP PRESS: The U14 Girls have a great seat of matches v Penrith. Match Report now online.

The U16 Tigers go down 41-14 to Stewartry in a cracking advert for rugby.

While the U18 Girls win their matches – scoring 14 tries in the process!

On Sunday 3 Youth teams are in action.

Before that though – on Saturday, 4 U18 Boys are off to to join Cumnock for a 10am kick off v Loch Lomond & Helensburgh

At Violetbank the U14 Girls host a derby match against Stewartry U14 Girls. The Hornets will be wanting to continue their winning form after last weeks great away win over Carrick.

KO time 1pm

STOP PRESS: The U14 match is OFF  as Stewartry can not raise a team. The U14 Girls are now off to Penrith. KO 12pm

On the road the U18 Hornets take on the Kelpies. The Kelpies are an amalgamation of Bannockburn, Falkirk, Grangemouth and Hillfoots Girls teams. This is the first match for the U18 Hornets this season and the Girls will no doubt be raring to go.

KO and place both a TBC.

Last, but no means least, the U16 Boys will be taking the lessons learned in last Sunday’s defeat to Ardrossan with them as they travel to near neighbours Stewartry for the 2nd derby match of the day.

2pm KO

Best of luck to all the teams this weekend.
