THIS WEEKEND AT ANNAN RUGBY

FOR SATURDAY 27TH & SUNDAY 28TH NOVEMBER 2021

BUSY WEEKEND FOR ANNAN RUGBY

With the Autumn Internationals over for another year, the domestic matches start to pick up again for all teams in Scotland.

At Annan we have nearly all the squads in action this weekend.

On Saturday the 1st XV, 2nd XV and some of our U18 Girls are in action while on Sunday the Warriors, U14 & U16 Girls, U14 & U16 Boys and the P2-P7 Tigers are also in action.

Three of the matches (2nd XV and the U14 & U16 Girls) are at Violetbank and some big matches as the 1st XV and 2nd XV take on undefeated league leaders while the Warriors travel to Ayr in a match that both teams really need to win.

Whatever match you can get to, your support as always is most appreciated by the teams.

1ST XV OFF TO THE BEARYARDS

STOP PRESS: The 1st XV go down 50-0

Match report and photos – now online.

The 1st XV are back in action after a 3 week break and it’s a big one to start the next part of the league season when they travel to league leaders Allan Glens in the league.

Annan are currently in 4th spot with 4 wins from 6 while Allan Glens lead the way with 8 wins from 8!

The Glens lads have been scoring for fun, scoring over 400 points in their 8 games this season.

Past matches at the Bearyards also don’t favour the Annan lads, with only 1 win in the last 9 away trips. And that was way back in 2008. Allan Glens have since won the next 8 Bearyards games on the bounce.

Annan have beaten Allan Glens but only on 3 occasions over the past 10 years but will be hoping to carry on the form they showed in their last league outing when the beat Lenzie convincingly at Violetbank plus Annan have yet to lose on the road this season with 2 wins from 2.

Should be a cracking match which kicks off at an earlier time of 2pm.

Players to meet at Violetbank at 11am

Starting XV:1 Aiden Craik, 2 Kieran Warwick, 3 Ryan Glass, 4 Dan Robson, 5 Ewan Campbell, 6 Frazer Hope, 7 Harry Houldey, 8 Sean Haren (Vice), 9 Aaron Carmichael, 10 Josh Whiteside, 11 Elliot Haley,12 James Bigham. 13 Ryan Hetherington, 14 James Kirby, 15 Andrew Jancey (Capt)

2ND XV AT HOME TAKING ON THE LEAGUE LEADERS

STOP PRESS: The 2nd XV lose 41-15. The Annan points from Max Thorburn (T), John James McKay (T) and George Forrest (T).

Match report, photos and highlights – now online

The 2nd XV also have a tough match in their latest league match when they host unbeaten leaders Marr 3rd XV at Violetbank.

Annan currently sit in 5th spot but have only played one league match at home this season so will be glad to get another one under their belt on Saturday.

The 2nd XV have taken some heavy loses on the road but at home they have not been beaten for quite a number of matches and with 2 wins and a draw in their last 4 matches (3 in the league and 1 friendly) they will be hoping for another decent performance on Saturday.

The teams last met at Violetbank in December 2019 when Annan came out on top. The last meeting was this season at Marr when Marr ran out big winners.

A win for Annan could take them up into 4th in the league.

Kick off at Violetbank is also now 2pm.

Players to meet at 1pm.

2nd XV Team from: Ben Conroy (Capt), Dougie King, John-James McKay, Craig Bell, Jack Graham, Thomas Martindale, Tam Thorburn, Coll Irving, Stewart Livingstone, George Forrest, Josh Burgess, Scott Muir, Declan Ferguson, Finley McCartney, Max Thorburn, Jack Ogilvie, Alex Jones, Adam Wilson, Ben Sweeney, Evan Cringean, Ben White, Nick Graham, Willie Gray, Max Thorburn and Callum Taylor

WARRIORS ON THE ROAD TO AYR LADIES

STOP PRESS: Match is OFF due to the weather and travel conditions

The Annan Warriors travel to Ayr Ladies on Sunday in their latest National Division 1 match.

Its been a tough season so far the Warriors, not helped with injuries and player unavailability and they currently lie very close to bottom spot.

But the bottom 4 teams are all within 6 points of each other and a couple of wins and it could be all change in the relegation battle.

Ayr Ladies had a big win last week v fellow strugglers Kelso Ladies so will be going into this match in a high but they Warriors will know that this match is a big one as a win for them could but some daylight between them and Kelso Ladies – a team the Warriors host the following Sunday!

The Warriors and Ayr Ladies have never met in the league or Cup so will be a new match up for the teams.

A big Warrior travelling support would be most appreciated for the 2pm KO.

Starting XV: TBA

Subs: TBA

Busy time for the Youth team, parents and coaches as 8 squad in action.

On Saturday some of our U18 Girls are off with Biggar Girls as they travel to Alnwick for a friendly match. KO: TBC

On Sunday at Violetbank, the U14 and U16 Girls host Biggar Girls. Both teams have been playing really well this season and Biggar have always had one of the top Girls set up in Scotland so should be a cracking set of matches.

The U14 & U16 Boys teams are on the road as they travel to Stewartry (U14) and Carrick (U16) in their latest matches.
