1ST XV ARE ON THE ROAD

After last Saturday’s match against unbeaten league leaders Allan Glens, the Annan 1st XV will be hoping to finally get their league season up and running when they travel to Irvine rugby in their latest West 1 league match. They have lost all 4 matches so far but their play has deserved a few more points, if not a win or 2

Both teams currently fill the bottom 2 places but an Annan win could take them off the bottom and above Irvine, and depending on other results Annan could move up to 7th.

The 1st XV have played the North Ayrshire team 5 times in the league at Marress over the past 8 seasons with Annan winning 2 and Irvine 3. Irvine won the last meeting in November 2018, 26-20 however Annan won the 2 previous meeting at Irvine: 44-12 and 29-22

Should be a great match and if Annan want to get themselves climbing up the West 1 table its matches away in the cold of October that have to be won!

For the record, if Alex “Willix” Halliday plays on Saturday (which is most likely) it will be Alex’s 200th appearance for the Annan 1st XV in a competitive match (League and Cup).

Willix debuted on the 26th August 2006 v Glasgow Accies when he came on as a sub in the 38-6 win. His full debut was 2 weeks later when he started for the 1st time (along with a certain Alex Dunbar) in a 71-7 league win over Duns. He also scored the first of his 102 tries in the Duns match. Alex has scored 560 points for the 1st XV (510 from tries and 50 from kicks). Congratulations to Alex when he hopefully hits this milestone on Saturday. Some effort!

Players to meet at Bank Street at 11.30 for the 15.00 kick off.

THE 2ND XV HOST EAST KILBRIDE/CAMBUSLANG

After their blistering start to the league, the 2nd XV lost their way a wee bit and have lost the last 2 matches to now lie in 5th spot in the league.

On Saturday the mighty twos host 3rd placed East Kilbride/Cambuslang. A win could move the 2nd XV up to 3rd spot.

The 2nd XV will hoping that they recapture the form of their first 2 matches when they scored over 150 points.

As always the mighty Twos are always on the lookout for new and available players for Saturday. Drop 2nd XV Team manager Gavin Lynch a message or on 07554 494262

Super Sunday

Super Sunday

Then up at Violetbank, the Warriors host Broughton Ladies in a big National 1 match

The teams met back in 2017/18 when Broughton Ladies won the away match while the Warriors were victorious at Violetbank.

Broughton Ladies currently lie in 5th spot, just above the Warriors in 4th. A win for the Warriors would help close the gap on the top half of the table and ease slightly any relegation thoughts.

It will be a tough match as Broughton Ladies are coming off a great win over Stewartry Sirens last Sunday and will no doubt be wanting to do the double over the South of Scotland sides.

The Warriors will, as always, be up for it though and will be hoping to get the win to take into the following Sundays away match to Stewartry Sirens.

The Warriors will be boosted by the return to the squad of top try scorer Jane Stewart. Jane has scored 89 tries in her Warriors career or to put it another way – 37% of all tries scored by the Warriors. Welcome back Jane.

Players to meet at 12.30 for the 14.00 kick off.

Annan Warriors Starting XV: 1 Ashley Clark, 2 L Moffat, 3 J Dalgliesh, 4 N Barnes, 5 M Muir, 6 A McWilliam, 7 L Glendinning, 8 K Warrick, 9 N Barlow (Captain), 10 M McGeoch, 11 M Ker, 12 C Barnes, 13 C O’Connell, 14 K Barlow, 15 K Taylor

Annan Warriors Subs: 16 E Jardine, 17 J Stewart, 18 J McGregor, 19 B Lowery

The usual loud vocal support as always will be appreciated!

Hope to see to see you at both
