RUGBY TRAINING

Training is on this week for all Age Groups

Our current training schedule is as follows. 

WALKING RUGBY – ALL AGES:  Monday at the Violetbank – 6pm to 7pm

U6-U12 BOYS/GIRLS: Sunday at Violetbank – 10am to 11am. 

U13-U14 GIRLS: Wednesday at Violetbank – 6.30pm to 8pm. 

U13-U14 BOYS: Thursday at Violetbank – 6.30pm to 8pm. 

U15-U16 GIRLS: Wednesday at Violetbank – 6.30pm to 8pm. 

U15-U16 BOYS: Thursday at Violetbank – 6.30pm to 8pm. 

U17-U18 GIRLS: Tuesday at Stewartry Rugby & Thursday at Violetbank – 7pm to 8.30pm

U17-U18 BOYS: Tuesday & Thursday at Violetbank –  7pm to 8.30pm

SENIOR WOMEN: Tuesday & Thursday at Violetbank – 7pm to 8.30pm

SENIOR MEN: Tuesday & Thursday at Violetbank – 7pm to 8.30pm

RUGBY MATCHES

1ST XV AWAY ONCE AGAIN

The fixtures have not been too kind to the Annan 1st XV this season, with 7 of the first 11 matches away from home and on Saturday they travel to Strathaven for their 3rd match of the league season.

There’s a bit of an injury build-up at Annan, with several 1st team regulars out just now with various ailments, but the squad that is picked will be wanting to get their 1st win of the season on Saturday at Strathaven

No easy task as Strathaven are having a great start to the West 1 season and sit at the top with 2 wins from 2.

The Annan lads will need to play as they did in the 2nd half against Carrick when they played some vintage rugby. Do that, and the points will come!

Tough match but Annan will be up for it,

2ND XV ALSO ON THE ROAD

The 2nd XV are also on the road as they start their West 1 Reserve League season away to Whitecraigs

Like the 1st XV, the 2nd XV must play 6 away matches in their first 9 games. So a tough set of fixtures in the first half of the season. Of course, it’s the reverse in the 2nd half, but unfortunately the 2nd half of the season is when teams suddenly can’t find the players to travel to Annan. But maybe this season will be different.

With injuries in the 1st XV, several 2nd XV players have stepped up to the 1st XV, and on Saturday the coaches will be hoping there are enough players left over to get the full 22 off to Whitecraigs. No doubt, whatever number end up travelling, the 2nd XV will want to start this league season with a win.

WARRIORS IN DERBY OPENER

The Annan Warriors start their West 1 league campaign with a home derby against Stewartry Sirens.

The preseason for the Warriors has not been ideal, with a couple of matches being called off by the opposition, so this match will actually be the Warriors’ first full 15-a-side match of the season.

Their opponents, the Stewartry Sirens, used to be the top team in the region (now it’s Wigtownshire Ladies), but they have been rebuilding for the last couple of seasons.

With their wealth of Premier League experience, the Sirens will be favourites for this match, but the Warriors at home don’t lose that often, and Coach Hamilton will be wanting to start the season with a bang.

YOUTH TEAMS IN ACTION

A few youth teams are in action on Sunday as their season begins.

On Sunday, the D&G U18 Girls are on the road to take on Cambuslang U18 Girls. 1.30pm KO

While the U14 Boys are off to Strathaven to take on the hosts, Greenock and Wigtownshire. 2pm start

Finally, the U13 Boys will join players from Garnock to take on teams from Ardrossan and Kilmarnock/Paisley. 12.30pm start at
Ardrossan.
