1ST XV ENTERTAIN STRATHAVEN
STOP PRESS: 23-14 to the lads. Well played! Points from Josh (P), Willix (T), Fraser Mc (T), Ryan H (T) and Andy McG (T). Match Report and Match Photos – Now Online
The 1st XV host Strathaven on Saturday in their latest West 1 match.
After last Weekend’s loss to Oban, the 1st XV now lie bottom of the West 1 and unless they can find the form they had at the start of the season, relegation to West 2 is most certainly on the cards.
Coach Juan will be hoping to see a reaction from the players after the poor performance against Oban.
Lack of players is not a problem at Annan with arounf 70 players turning out for the 1st and 2nd XV’s this season, unfortunately lack of numbers at training and players becoming unavailable at the weekend is.
The match against Strathaven will mark the halfway stage of the 2023/24 season and is a must win match for the 1st XV if they don’t want to become stranded at the bottom of the West 1 division as we enter the 2nd half of the season.
There are still plenty of matches to turn the season around but it’s up to the players to step up and show the rugby we all know they are cabable of.
Plus makes my weekly posts and reports far more enjoyable to write! Think of me lads, think of me! 🙂
Match kicks off at 2pm up at Violetbank
Starting XV: 1 Ryan Glass 2 Callum Bell 3 Kieran Warrick 4 Frazer Hope 5 James Morrison 6 Callum Smith 7 Ryan Hetherington 8 Sean Haren 9 Fraser McMillan 10 Johnny Callaghan 11 John Glendinning 12 Andrew Jancey 13 Alex Halliday 14 James Kirby 15 Josh Whiteside
Subs: 16 Eben Le Vin 17 Andy McGreevy 18 Willie Gray 19 Kieran Johnstone
2ND XV ON THE ROAD TO GREENOCK
STOP PRESS: Match OFF. We could sadly not raise a team! #SadTimes
The 2nd XV, like the 1st XV, are having a tough old run at the moment.
Similar problems to the 1st XV is that we have the 2nd XV player numbers – 49 have turned out for at least 1 match for the 2nd XV this season – but as was apparent at Saturdays loss v Galloway, player fitness and team cohesion let the team down as the fitter Galloway team ran away with the match in the 2nd half.
The coaches could do with more 2nd XV players turning up at training and being available at the weekend for match selection, especially away matches.
We have a great group of rugby players in the 2nd XV squad, that could produce the results if the coaches could pick a more settled team.
Saturdays match is away to Greenock, a team Annan have played numerous times and the coaches will be hoping that this is the match the 2nd XV get their first win of the season.
2pm KO
YOUTH TEAMS IN ACTION
STOP PRESS: U16 Girls go down fighting 64-14. Well played Hornets. The U18 have a development match and thanks to Hamilton/Strathaven for the loan of players. The U14 Girls and P1-P7 Tigers played some amazing rugby as always.
Bust weekend again for the youth teams.
Match of the weekend in the U16 Girls trip to Biggar in the 2nd match in the U16 Girls National Cup/Shield competition. A win here and the girls would be one step closer to a Murrayfield Final but it it will be a tough match against a team that also won last week again Stirling County Girls. 10.30am KO on Saturday
Also on Saturday the U18 Boys hosts Strathaven/Hamilton at Violetbank. Hopefully the U18 Boys will finally start their 2023/24 season after numerous false starts. 12pm KO
The U14 Girls are off to Cumnock on Sunday in their latest Girls Rugby Festival. Joining up once again with their friends from Wigtownshire. 11.30am start
The U16 Boys match v Renfrewshire is cancelled.
While last, but not least, the P1-P7 Tigers are off to Langholm for matches against the hosts and others. The P1-2 Tigers for a training session, the P3-P7 Tigers for matches. 11am start.
