1ST XV TRAVEL TO GARNOCK IN THE LEAGUE

The Annan 1st XV have a trip to Glengarnock on Saturday as they face Garnock in their latest West 1 Division match.

Garnock are currently lying in 5th spot so you would think they would be out of the West 1 Championship chase, however Garnock with 2 to 4 matches in hand on teams above them are still in with a shout of the one promotion spot come seasons end.

Annan however have been dragged back into the relegation mire with 2 straight defeats. The defeats may have been against top 3 clubs but Annan now have just 6 matches left in the season to pick up the points they need to avoid the 1 or possibly 2 relegation spots.

Basically the league has split into two. Any one of the top 6 teams could win the West 1 title (perhaps bar Lenzie) and any one of the bottom 4 could be relegated.

The teams met earlier in the season when Garnock scored in the last play of the match to sneak the win.

The black and ambers record at Garnock in the league is not great as Annan have never won in the league at Lochshore in 6 attempts.

Annan have won twice in the Shield/Cup though so Saturdays match should be viewed as a Cup Final match as a win and Annan are one step closer to playing West 1 rugby next season. A loss and West 2 rugby becomes a greater possibility.

Players to meet at Bank Street at 10.30am for the 2pm KO

1st XV Starting XV: R Glass, K Warrick, N Graham, M Thompson, N Coupland, C Bell, B Thomson, T Sloan, A Carmichael, J Bigham, J Kirby, H Houdley, A Jancey (Capt), J Park, J Whiteside

1st XV Subs: J Crombie, R Armstrong, D Ferguson

2ND XV WELCOME CUMNOCK TO VIOLETBANK

Stop Press: Alas once again the opposing team can’t raise a team to travel to Violetbank. Match is OFF. #sigh

Annan 2nd XV welcome Cumnock on Saturday in a Tennant’s Regional Reserve Leagues West 3 (South) fixtures.

With 7 matches left, the Annan 2nd XV still have chance of the league title but would probably require 6-7 wins and after Saturday’s match, the 2nd XV have a run of 4 aways matches, so a win really is a must on Saturday to keep up their championship winning ambitions.

Cumnock are currently lying just below Annan and beat Annan earlier in the season so it will be a hard fought match at Violetbank.

All players to meet at Violetbank at 12.45pm for a 2pm KO

As always the mighty Twos are on the lookout for new and available players for Saturday. Drop 2nd XV Team manager Gavin Lynch a message or on 07554 494262 if you are available.

2nd XV Squad: TBA later on in the week
