SATURDAY UPDATE: THE 1ST XV GO DOWN IN BISHOPBRIGGS
With the 2nd XV match v Carrick postponed due to a waterlogged Violetbank, it was up to the 1st XV to try and bring back some points for Annan.
It was always going to be a tough ask against Allan Glens, a team who are a lot of peoples favourites for the title and who Annan had not beaten at the Bearyards in their last 7 attempts.
It was a scrappy start, with mistakes from both teams and it was the hosts who had the first points on the board, as on the 15th minute they drove over the whitewash. 5-0
The game was stopped shortly after for a time due to an injury to an Annan player. Not sure who at the moment. But swift recovery from all at Annan Rugby.
It was 10-0 not long after the restart as Glens scored their 2nd try of the half.
For the rest of the half, Annan had numerous chances but could not convert any. The Glens took one of theirs on the stroke of half time to take it to 15-0 after 40.
Glens scored just after the restart and it was 22-0 and damage limitation time for the black and Amber. To keep it short it ended 43 v 0 to the hosts.
So congratulations to Allan Glens who are now just 2 points behind leaders Kilmarnock with 2 games in hand.
The lads now have a wee xmas break before a couple of derby matches (assuming the weather is kind!).
Firstly on Saturday 28th December, the lads travel to Dumfries to take on the Saints in a AA MacPherson Cup clash.
Then the following Saturday, it’s the Chisholm Cup 2nd leg (plus West 1), as the black and amber travel to the Greenlaw to take on Stewartry.
Hope to see you there for some rugby and a few xmas shandies!
