1st XV v Allan Glens

1ST XV ON THE ROAD

The 1st XV play their last league match of 2019 when they travel to Allan Glens on Saturday.

The Glens are lying currently in 2nd spot and are most peoples favourites to take the West 1 championship.

Allan Glens have stuttered a bit in recent weeks, losing to Garnock in the league and last weekend they were knocked out of the Tennent’s Shield, so the Glens will be aiming to get their season back on track against the black and amber.

For Annan, they will be wanting to continue their recent good form and get another win under their belts to put some more distance between them and the bottom 2 places.

The teams met back at the start of October at Violetbank when the Glens won 29-18 and Annan have not won at Allan Glens since 2006. Since that win Annan have lost 7 matches in a row at the Bearyards.

But as the saying goes, no-one beats Annan 8 times in a row, and hopefully at 3.30pm on Saturday it’s a phrase that will be uttered!

Players to meet at Bank Street at 10.45am for the 2pm kick off.

1st XV starting 15: R Glass, R Hetherington, N Graham, M Thompson, N Coupland, B Thomson, D Nordon, T Sloan, A Jancey, J Bigham, J Kirby, S Haren, D Wyllie, L Johnstone, J Whiteside

1st XV subs: J Crombie, C Smith, R Armstrong, A Carmichael.

ANOTHER BIG MATCH FOR THE 2ND XV

STOP PRESS: Alas the match has been POSTPONED as both Violetbank pitches are still waterlogged.

An even bigger match on Saturday is the 2nd XV hosting of Carrick 2nd XV at Violetbank.

The 2nd XV have given themselves a chance at going for the West Reserve 3 title after their great win over league leaders Marr last Saturday.

There are still 7 matches to go, and Annan need to win all 7 and hope other results go their way, so there is no margin for error and the match versus Carrick will be the biggest match the 2nd XV have played for many a year.

The teams met back in October when Carrick ran to 26-0 winners, so the Annan 2nd XV will need to be on the top of their game to come away with the win.

Players to meet at Violetbank at 12.45pm for the 2pm kick off.

YOUTH TEAMS IN ACTION

STOP PRESS: Alas Sundays trip to Biggar for the P1-P7 Tigers is OFF owing to illness and the weather forecast.

And a reminder that it’s the last training session tonight at Galabank for 2019. 6pm to 7pm

New players always wanted and welcome

On Sunday, the P1-P7 Tigers play their last tournament of the decade when they travel to Biggar Rugby for a mini rugby festival.

The P1-P7 Tigers have had a great season so far with growing numbers and some great rugby on show and no doubt that great rugby will be on show again on Sunday.

Parents and players to meet at 10,30am at Biggar for the 11am start.

STOP PRESS: U16 and U18 matches OFF but U14 match still ON at the moment. Pitch inspection on  Sunday morning.

And also on Sunday, dependant on the weather conditions, the Annan U14-U16 Hornets will be back in action against Biggar Girls.

At the time of writing they maybe at Violetbank or at the Everholm and KO times are a TBC.

Keep an eye online for confirmation of the above.

The Hornets will be wanting to end the year as they started with wins and some great rugby. It will be a tough ask though against one of the best girls rugby teams in Scotland but the Hornets as always will be giving their all.

Best of luck to all the teams this weekend.
