ANNAN 1ST XV AT HOME ON SATURDAY

After the 1st XV got their first win of the season last week away to Irvine, they will be hoping to add to that tally when they host Garnock on Saturday at Violetbank.

It will be a tough match as Garnock, although they have only played 3 matches, look like one of the few clubs that could challenge high flying Allan Glens for the one promotion spot.

At Violetbank the teams have met 7 times. 6 league meeting and 1 Bowl meeting, Garnock have the edge with 4 wins to Annan’s 3 but Annan did win the last encounter last season edging out the Glengarnock club 26-24

And it will be another milestone this weekend. After Alex Halliday hit 200 matches for the 1st XV last week and also Michael Thompson (100) and Josh Whiteside (50), this week it’s the turn of Callum “Dinger” Bell.

If Callum plays, it will also be his 200th match for the 1st XV at a competitive level. Callums debut was back in August 2008 when he started away against Royal High Corstorphine. Callum first try was against East Kilbride in April 2009.

In total Callum has played 199 matches for Annan (177 league and 22 Cup) and scored 42 tries and, a little known fact, also a conversion!

Congratulation to Callum from all at Annan Rugby. Some shift!

Players to meet at Violetbank at 13.45 for the 15.00 kick off.

Annan Starting 1st XV: R Glass, K Warrick, R Hetherington, T Sloan, M Thompson, D Nordon, C Bell, S Haren, A Jancey (Capt), J Bigham, J Kirby, D Wyllie, A Halliday, A Torbett, J Whiteside

Annan 1st XV subs: M Crombie, N Coupland, B Thomson, J Park.

ANNAN 2ND XV ARE AWAY TO CUMNOCK

Unfortunately the 2nd XV match last week v East Kilbride/Cambuslang had to be re-arranged. For the record it will now be played on the 22nd February 2020.

So the 2nd XV will be raring to go to get their league season back on track after a couple of defeats previously. In an unexpected result, league leaders Marr 3rd XV were beaten last week by Carrick so a win for the 2nd XV and the lads are right back in the championship mix.

The 2nd XV and Cumnock have tussled a few times over the years and the matches have usually been close and competitive and no doubt Saturdays match will be much of the same.

As always the mighty Twos are always on the lookout for new and available players for Saturday. Drop 2nd XV Team manager Gavin Lynch a text on 07554 494262 if you are available.

Players to meet at Bank Street at 12.00 for the 15.00 kick off.

Annan 2nd XV Squad: R Brown, F Laurie, A Laurie, R Barlow, F Hope, B Conroy, D Lockerby, N Graham, Z Lockerbie, C Lowther, B Sweeney, A Carmichael, R Armstrong, E Campbell, I Thorburn.

ANNAN WARRIORS TRAVEL TO STEWARTRY SIRENS

On Sunday, there is a derby match on as the Warriors take the short trip to Castle Douglas to take on the Sirens at the Greenlaw.

This will be the 4th meeting between the club at a competitive level, the Warriors have still to get their first win and so will be hoping on Sunday to end this record!

There will also be another milestone on Sunday as Captain Nicole Barlow will be taking to the pitch for the 50th time for the Annan Warriors.

Nicole debuted back in the Warriors first competitive match back in September 2015 against Greenock Ladies.

Since then Nicole has played in a total of 40 league matches and 9 cup matches, scoring 17 tries in that time. This is the 3rd highest tries scored by a Warriors player.

Congratulations also to Nicole from all at Annan Rugby. Some effort! A win v the Sirens would be a nice 50th appearance reward!.

Players to meet at Bank Street at 11.30 for the 14.00 kick off.

Annan Starting Squad From: N Barlow (c), C Barnes, J Dalgliesh, M Alexander, E Jardine, A Clark, K Warrick, N Barnes, M Muir, L Glendinning, L Moffat, M McGeoch, M Ker, A Cook, K Barlow, J Stewart, A McWilliam, K Taylor, R Peacock, J McGregor.

Best of luck to all the teams this weekend.
