1ST XV IN HOME DERBY MATCH

Stop Press: Alas it had to happen eventually, after 15 years of trying, Stewartry finally get a win over Annan at Violetbank again. Ah well. League is where it’s at anyway!

The big match of the weekend is at Violetbank when the 1st XV host friends and rivals Stewartry at Violetbank in the preliminary round of the Tennent’s West Regional Shield on Saturday.

In the league last weekend, Stewartry had a big win to go top of the league while Annan suffered a loss to Kilmarnock.

So based on 1 match, the form is with Stewartry! But based on historic results at Violetbank, Annan hold the edge with 8 wins to 1. However in those 8 wins, 7 had winning margins of 10 points or less at the full time whistle.

Stewartry are celebrating their 50th anniversary next year so no doubt they would love a trip to Murrayfield at the end of the season. For Annan it’s been almost 17 years since their last trip to the hallowed ground. About time for another visit you would think!

A long way to go though (about 6 more rounds) and the winners of this tie have been drawn at home to Allan Glens on the 28th September.

A big and loud Annan support would, as always, be most appreciated for this derby match.

It’s a 3pm KO at Violetbank and there will be a bar and BBQ open for supporters.

Can’t make it? Well the teams meet again at Violetbank just 2 weeks later on the 21st September in a Chisholm Cup 1st leg/West 1 double header.

Players to meet at 1.45pm for the 3pm KO

Annan 1st XV starting XV: M Crombie, K Warrick, R Glass, N Coupland, T Sloan, D Nordon, C Smith, C Bell, A Jancey (Captain), H Houldey, J Kirby, A Torbett, A Halliday, L Johnstone, J Whiteside

Annan 1st XV subs: A Allison, S Livingston, D Ferguson

2ND XV START THEIR LEAGUE SEASON ALSO AT HOME

Stop Press: Nope, match cancelled. Uddingston could not raise a team

The 2nd XV are also at home as they take on Uddingston in their first West Reserve 3 South league match at Violetbank,

New 2nd XV Captain Ben Conroy will be hoping for a winning start to the season after a couple of lean years for the 2nd XV.

The 2nd XV then have a tough trip away to Clydesdale the following weekend so a winning start would certainly help.

Players to meet at 1.45pm for the 3pm KO

WARRIORS ON THE ROAD

Stop Press: Get in! The Warriors get a great win 60-31 to finally get their league season started! Lovely!

On Sunday the Warriors travel to Glasgow Uni Ladies in their latest National 1 league match.

The Warriors currently lie bottom of the division after their defeat to Howe Harlequins last weekend. The Warriors are currently struggling with player numbers just now due to injuries and unavailable players and just the bare 15 travelled last weekend. Never easy to play teams without any subs!

And it’s looking like the bare 15 are travelling again on Sunday.

On the plus side, the Warriors have a great record versus the Glasgow team with 4 wins from 4. The last meeting was in March of this year in the Sarah Beaney Cup when the Warriors ran out 46-29 winners.

Good luck Warriors.

Players to meet at 10.30am Bank Street for the 2pm KO

Annan Warriors 15: N Barlow (Captain), C Barnes, M Alexander, J Dalgliesh, L Moffat, L Glendinning, C Ritchie, M Muir,K Warrick, A McWilliam, M McGeoch, M Ker, C O’Connell, K Taylor, K Barlow

Stop Press: Mixed fortunes for the teams. Wins for the U14 Tigers and the P1-P7 squads but alas the U16 go down just to Newton Stewart – 6 tries to 4

On Sunday, the inform team in the club, the U16 Tigers host neighbours Newton Stewart at Violetbank in a Galant league match. The U16 lads have won their last 2 matches and will be hoping to continue this trend on Sunday.
