Match Report from: Colin “Choc” Warrick
For the 2nd time this season the Warriors made the long trek to Oban to play their final game in the group phase of this seasons National Plate competition.
In what were near perfect conditions the game kicked off with both teams keen to gain the early advantage.
The early stages of the game were evenly matched but the scoring was opened by the hosts on 6 minutes with a try out wide after some strong carries by their strong running forwards.
Not to be outdone the Annan pack carried hard but just couldn’t quite create the quick quality ball desired.
With both sets of defence cancelling out most of the good play, Oban managed to break free & score a further 2 tries before half time.
Half time score: Oban Ladies 17 v Annan Warriors 0
With Annan knowing they were still in the game if they could create some quality ball they kicked off only for the Oban winger to catch the kick and run through several tackles to score from her own 22, certainly not the start desired.
Although the Warriors gained the upper hand for periods of the 2nd half they couldn’t manage to get the continuity to allow the attack to flourish & scores to come.
Final score: Oban Ladies 24 v Annan Warriors 0
Not the best performance from the Warriors but they kept going to the end as always. Positives of the return of Shei Howlett to the squad, who brought momentum in her own Shei way.
So with the group phase almost over the Warriors fate is in the hands of others with the possibility of a semi final still there.
Best in the pack were Rhianna Parker-Clevett, Shei Howlett, with forward of the match going to Hannah Paterson.
In the backs Mally McGeoch put a shift in with back of match going to Lexie Glendinning.
