LENZIE U16 BOYS v ANNAN U16 BOYS

WEST U16 PLATE/QUAICH/CHAIRMAN TROPHY
5TH MARCH 2023

Match Report from: Coach Kieron Watret

Annan travelled with 15 eager boys to Kirkintilloch to play Lenzie. Annan started well keeping Lenzie in their own half until Lenzie got their first try against the run of play. Annan pushed hard again but Lenzie somehow were able to get the ball and run away and score another try.

Annan’s luck got a bit worse when they lost one of their big running players Kelum Smith who clashed with one of his own players to give himself a mighty black eye. This put the team down to 14 boys.

Lenzie started pushing hard and scored a couple more tries. Just before half time Annan received another injury this time to Ollie Hamilton, which at the time all thought it was very serious. Luckily enough it was not and he will be up and about doing all the activities Ollie does in no time. Special mention must go to Janet and Douglas who took Ollie to the local medical centre and then onto Dumfries hospital were they felt he could be seen quicker.

The second half became quite difficult with two boys down and  others playing out of positions. Lenzie were then able to work out their best form of attack. Scoring tries at quite regular intervals. Annan never gave up and fought to the end and Rohan Cother got his trademark try. Five meter tap and go penalty. With Harry Nordon adding the extra two points.

It was a hard day at the office but the boys never gave up. James Farrall and James Glendinning are working well together in the line out. Nate Nolan and Jack Vivers must have covered every inch of the park – tackling everyone who came into their path.

Well done to Mason Sibbring and James Wilkinson on their first proper game for Annan. The only thing the boys have to work on is their singing and knowing more than one line to a song. I hope every parent has recovered and is willing to come on a bus in the future
