Match Report from: STEVE JANCEY
On Saturday 2nd September the Annan 2nd team set off to Kilmarnock with a squad of 19 players for the first match of the new season.
Due to a lack of front row players it was agreed with Kilmarnock that we would play uncontested scrums. However with the SRU rules “Game On” applied the result and points would be awarded to the winning team.
Kilmarnock scored first with a try that was unconverted. Annan then took the lead with a well worked try scored by Luke Clark and converted by Andy McGreevy.
Kilmarnock scored again just before the break with a try which was converted to make the half time score Kilmarnock 12 – 7 Annan.
The second half was just as ferocious on the tackling front with no quarter asked for and none being given/
Annan scored one more try which was a good solo effort by Andy McGreevy who managed to slip several Kilmarnock defenders for a long run to the whitewash, converted by himself.
Final score: Kilmarnock 31 Annan 14.
