Match Report from: Colin Warrick
The Warriors travelled to face Howe Harlequins with only 15 players available to travel due to unavailability & injury. With a number on inexperienced players starting for the 1st time, so the challenge was always going to be a tough one.
From the kick off the standard was set for most of the 1st half with Howe attacking hard through their strong runners both in forwards & backs forcing Annan back towards their try-line.
Many of these attacks were thwarted with brave defence lead by Captain Nicole Barlow & Vice Captain Kayleigh Warrick to the fore.
Howe managed to score at regular intervals taking the half time score to 31- 7 with the Warriors score coming from
Megan Muir after a searing break from centre Jane Stewart, with Mally McGeoch kicking the extras.
The 2nd half followed similar trends with Howe scoring regularly as the Warriors tired, although the Warriors held their heads high & didn’t give up until the final whistle.
The final score finishing Howe Harlequins 84 – Annan Warriors 7
A disappointing result however positives as always can be taken with new Warriors Ellie McCormick, Becca Carroll & Iona Cook all getting a rare start with Ellie playing at wing forward for the 1st time, all 3 putting a good shift in.
Also the return after 4 years of Abbi Armstrong who since returning to assist coaching has got the playing bug again.
Best in the forwards were Kayleigh Warrick, Ruth Peacock & Eilidh Jardine with forward of the match going to Rhianna Parker-Clevett.
In the backs Nicole Barlow, Jane Stewart & Abbi Armstrong stood out with back of the match going to full back Kirsty Barlow.
This week sees the Warriors at home to West of Scotland ladies, another big challenge with the opposition pushing hard at the top end of National One.
