DALZIEL v ANNAN 1ST XV

Match Report from: GUS ROBERTSON

The 1st XV travelled to Dalziel on the back of 2 wins on the bounce and were wanting to put on a performance to make it 3 from 3 and do the double over Dalziel this season.

The match was one of the few that survived the cold snap and as the lads arrives they realised it was because it had been moved to a 4G pitch. Not a great omen as Annan have lost 6 from 6 on artificial pitches over the years.

The first half kicked off and to keep it short, Dalziel scored at regular intervals right from the off with the Annan defensive line not functioning at all well with numerous missed tackles and lapses of concentration.

Half Time Score: 27-0

The second half was unfortunately much of the same and with some of the Annan players getting frustrated with some of the decisions not going their way (such as a try being awarded on the 5 meter line!), a bit of indiscipline crept in during the latter half of the 2nd period with a few cards reducing the Annan numbers to make the task even harder

Dalziel took full advantage and the final score was 54-0 to the hosts – our biggest defeat to Dalziel.

With the loss though, Annan are dragged further into the relegation mire and with 7 matches to go (3 at home and 4 away) the lads just need to put this match behind them and concentrate on the next match, which will be another tough encounter as they are off to runaway league leaders Ardrossan on Saturday. Least this match will be on grass though!
