CARTHA U16 BOYS v ANNAN U16 BOYS

WEST U16 PLATE/QUAICH/CHAIRMAN TROPHY
19TH MARCH 2023

Match Report from: Coach Murdo Bruton

On Sunday Annan under 16s travelled to Cartha to play in their last game of the season.

The game started with quite a bit of hesitation for both teams but this soon fell away and the boys got stuck in quickly.

Cartha opened the scoring with the first try but Annan were happy to respond within minutes, Rohan Cother leveled the score to five points and Harry Nordon drew the lads ahead by two points with his conversion.

The scoreline boosted the lads spirits again and they started to play some very good attacking rugby, breaking through the opposition defensive line on numerous occasions only to be held back in the last yards before the line. The ball was moved quickly from the breakdown and the scrum.

The backs really stepped up their game and the ball was spun wide to Mason Sibbring who was held back just short of the line again which would have been a try scored from a run started just inside his own twenty two.

As the game wore on the lads suffered a few lost trys due to a lot of very fast and powerful runners in the opposition. Annan stepped up to the mark and defended very well through a lot of very big tackles from Jack Vivers, Nate Nolan, Oban Nicolson and Mason Gibb to name a few.

Cartha picked up a loose ball and made a break from the halfway line; from the side line it looked like they were sure to score until Harry Nordon pulled off a massive try saving tackle on the five meter line.

Annan traveled to Cartha with a very strong support and the boys would all like to thank parents and supporters for attending and cheering them on.

The lads all left the pitch in great spirits after a last minute score in the corner from Rohan Cother and a massive celebration when Harry converted the extra two points from the sideline to make the game 64-14 to Cartha.
