Match Report from: Colin “Choc” Warrick

The Warriors headed on their travels again this time to visit league leaders Ayr.

With a team showing a number of changes from last week it was hoped that the quality of performance would remain after last week’s improvements.

Like last week the Warriors started well getting into their systems with the forwards carrying well & backs making good decisions.

Again like last week it was the opposition who opened the scoring with the winger racing along the touchline to score.

Unfortunately try as they might the Warriors couldn’t quite get enough of a  foothold in the game to cross the tryline with Ayr scoring at regular intervals.

The 2nd half kicked off with the Warriors still determined to get back into the game, but try as they might couldn’t quite retain the ball for that extra phase or make that extra pass to break the strong Ayr defence to score.

The Warriors defence stepped up putting more pressure on the home team making them have that extra phase before they could break them down, however they did manage to score four further tries.

Although another defeat the positives of further improvements in attack & defence can be taken, however the importance of having a full squad again showed.

Best on the day in attack were Hannah Paterson, Nicole Barlow with Sword of the day going to Emilia Szelag. In defence Rhianna Parker-Clevett, Steph McCracken, Mally McGeoch stood out with Shield of the day going to Kayleigh Warrick.

The Warriors now have a by week before the visit of Oban on the 8th so a two big weeks of preparation at training will be put to good use.
