ANNAN WARRIORS v CARTHA CLAYMORES.
WEST REGION DIVISION 1
27TH AUGUST 2023
Match Report from: Gus Robertson
The Warriors faced Cartha Claymores this afternoon at an overcast Violetbank
The teams suffered heavy opening day defeats so both teams were aiming to get their season back on track.
The Cartha Claymore were the fastest out of the blocks and took a 12-0 lead mid way through the 1st half despite numerous Warriors chances.
The Warriors needed to dig deep and dig deep they did with scrum half Niamh Ross, on her Warriors debut, grabbing 2 tries, with 1 converted by stand off Malvina McGeoch the half ended 12-12.
The 2nd half started a bit like the first, the Claymores grabbing the 1st try to take a 17-12 lead just as the half started and then another not long after to take it to 22-12
The Warriors had chances to close the score but alas it was the Claymores who got the next score with 10 to go to take it to 29-12.
It ended 41-12 with Cartha grabbing a couple of late tries as the Warriors chased the game.
Congratulations to the Claymores on their win.
And a hard day at the office for the Warriors but onto the next one – which happens to be Biggar Ladies who beat the Claymores last week 63-0 so the Warriors know they will be in for a tough old battle.
But as always the Warriors will fight hard to bring some points, if not the win, back to Violetbank.
For matchday awards the Warriors have changed things this season to fit in with the Warriors theme.
Sword of the match (Best attacker) went to Sarah Wyllie
Shield of the match (Best defender) went to Niamh Ross
