ANNAN 2ND XV v CUMNOCK 2ND XV

On the 26th Oct Annan welcomed the Cumnock second team to Violetbank for a League fixture.

Annan coach Andrew Jancey declared that the warm up should be intense and realistic. In fact it was so intense and realistic that Annan lost two players injured before kickoff.(Get well soon lads)

Cumnock arrived and stated that they had managed to lose a player en-route. Negotiations were called for and the referee decreed that a 14 a side game should occur and that the league points would stand. So with both teams happy and negotiations now over the match could begin.

Cumnock who had a strong wind at there back scored first with a fine try. Annan soon replied when a knock on was scooped up by centre Bradley James, who went on to skip around 3 defenders and over the whitewash.

The next Annan score was by Lex Stevenson. Who chased both his own high kick and then a grubber kick to score on the corner.

John Glendinning was next to score when a Cumnock player spilt the ball after a crunching tackle by Bradley James.

Annans last try of the half was scored by Calum Smith after a fine period of forward inter support play. Stevenson added 2 conversions.

Cumnock were by no means out of this game scoring two more tries. Making the half time score Annan 24 Cumnock 15.

The second half saw action a plenty with Annan scoring three more tries through Drew Thorburn, Bradley James and John Glendinning to Cumnock’s 2 tries.

Final Score Annan 41 Cumnock 25.

After the game .Man of the Match Callum Kirk was awarded the second team tankard. It had been found behind the bar and looks a touch battered. Tradition is others get to fill it up. Kirk stated that the tankard was ruining his fav tipple. Others noted it didn’t stop him drinking 🙂.

Many thanks to the referee and to Cumnock for making the journey, as one Cumnock player was heard to lament “It would have been a lot closer if we had got a few kicks over”. It would indeed as Cumnock scored no less than 5 tries.

We look forward to the return fixture on the 18th Jan 2025 at the Auchinleck Road Ground.

The Annan second teams next match is Sat 9th November away to Strathaven in the league.
