ANNAN 1ST XV v CUMNOCK 1ST XV
WEST REGION DIVISION 1
30TH SEPTEMBER 2023
Match Report from: Duncan Fisher
Annan suffered a second successive home defeat as they slipped to a 27-19 defeat by Cumnock at Violetbank.
The visitors proved too strong despite some decent spells of play by the home side.
Annan certainly started the better and were 5-3 up in as many minutes as Andrew Jancey finished off an intelligent attacking move.
Cumnock got themselves back in front though with a converted try not long after. Josh Whiteside made it 10-8 with the boot but almost from the restart another converted Cumnock try and it was 17-8.
That was also the half time score.
Onto the 2nd half and it was Annan who scored first through another Whiteside penalty and he added another with 25 minutes left but Cumnock scored again to make a decisive move on the scoreboard and regain an eight-point advantage.
Veteran centre Alex Halliday’s predatory finish gave Annan a sniff as he got the touchdown from a probing Whiteside kick through, his fourth try in five games to take Annan within three points but there was deflation at the end as Cumnock scored a late unconverted try.
Final Score: Annan 19 v Cumnock 27
