Match Report from: GUS ROBERTSON
The 1st XV took to the Violetbank pitches for the 2nd time this league season for match 4 of the West 1 Regional League
Saturday’s opponents were Dalziel, who had had a decent start to the league season.
Annan had not, and so the lads were aiming to rectify that situation today!
The team was bolstered by the surprise return of Andrew “AJ” Jancey, who started for the 1st time in 2 years for his 316th cap for the 1st XV in a competitive match
1ST HALF SUMMARY
Dalziel took the lead on the 8 minute with a converted try, but Annan got themselves on the scoresheet with a Josh Whiteside penalty just before the 20th minute. 3-7.
Dalziel scored again just before the half-hour mark to make it 3-14 but Josh kicked his 2nd pen to make it 6-14 not long after to keep Annan in touch.
But it got worst for Annan as Dalziel stretched their lead shortly after. 3-21
But just at the death of the half, Annan finally got their opening try when Bradley James sprinted over.
11-21 at half time. Could this try spur the lads on and get back in touch with Dalziel?
2ND HALF SUMMARY
They did when, 15 mins into the 2nd half, Aaron Carmichael waltzed over for this 4th try of the league season. 16-21 – and game back on!
Unfortunately, that was as close as Annan got. Dalziel got their 4th try on the 20th minute to take it to 16-26
It finished 23 v 33
Dalziel scored 1 more try and Aaron scored his 2nd, converted by Josh at the death
Congrats to Dalziel on their win.
Unlucky lads, and the 1st XV now go into a tough period with 6 away matches in the next 7 matches!
They take a break next weeK from the league though, as they travel to take on Wigtownshire in the 1st round of the National Shield.
This was also Aaron Carmichaels last match for Annan for a while as he is back across to Australia this week. Have a great time Aaron
