RUGBY MATCHES
1ST & 2ND XV’S START 2026 WITH TWO HOME MATCHES
After the freeze out last weekend, the 2 men’s teams will hopefully start their 2026 league campaigns on Saturday as they welcome Lenzie 1st XV and Ardrossan 2nd XV to Violetbank.
For the 2nd XV, it’s a classic 10 pointer as a 5 point win on Saturday and they could extend the gap over bottom places Ardrossan to 12 points but conversely the Ayrshire team could move to within 2 points of Annan come the final whistle at 3.30pm on Saturday.
So all to play for as both teams try and get themselves out of the bottom half of the table
For the 1st XV the welcome 3rd placed Lenzie. The Glasgow team are 1 of only 4 teams that still have a great chance of nabbing that 1 promotion spot come season end.
For Annan a win could potentially move them up into 5 spot but Annan are still flirting with a possibility of a relegation battle in their last few matches if they dont start picking up a few wins.
As always, it’s not clear how many relegation spots there will be come season end. The number is based on how many West region teams come down from National 4. As it stand, the bottom 3 relegation spots have no West region teams. With 7th spot Stewartry the only West team that could potentially come down.
If no West teams are relegated from National 1, then based on previous seasons there will be just 1 relegation spot from West 1. If Stewartry end up being 1 of the relegated teams then it could move to 2 relegation spots. But other factors also come into play as sometimes winning teams from East 1 or Caledonian 1 do now want to move up into the National leagues. Which happened last year and saved Stewartry from relegation.
Bottom line though is Annan need to pick up a few more wins from the 6 remaining league matches to ensure they will not be in the bottom 2 spots and with only 3 of those matches at home, every home match is huge.
Both matches kick off at 2pm
WARRIORS IN FRIENDLY DERBY MATCH
The Warriors return to action when they host local rivals Dumfries Ladies at Violetbank on Sunday.
Both teams will be using this match as preparation to get ready for their National Plate campaign which starts the following week. The Warriors are the current National Plate Champions just in case you were not aware.
It may be a friendly match but it’s still a derby match and both teams will be wanting that win and bragging rights.
With great player numbers just now at the Warriors, the coaches will be wanting to see what at the players can do before they pick their first squad of the Plate campaign the following week. Which for the Warriors is the tricky trip to Marr to face the Marlequin Ladies
YOUTH TEAMS IN ACTION
The U13 Boys are in action on Sunday as they travel to Ardrossan for their first league match of 2026. The boys will be looking for a winning start as they start match 1 of their 10 match league campaign,
Kick off: TBC
Best of luck to all the teams this weekend
