TOP OF THE LEAGUE 2ND XV TRAVEL TO 2ND PLACE MARR 3RD XV

With the 1st XV taking a break this Saturday, the focus in on the 2nd XV.

The Annan 2nd XV currently sit top of the Tennent’s West Reserve Division 3 (South) league with 3 wins and 15 points (1 win was awarded 28-0)

They travel on Saturday to Marr whose team currently lies in second spot with the same win record as Annan.

This is the start of 3 big matches for the 2nd XV as after this match they travel to currently 3rd placed Carrick then they host 4th spot EK/Cambuslang.

It’s still very early on in the season but if the 2nd XV can come out with 3 big performances then it bodes well for the rest of the season and any Championship winning ambitions.

The 2nd XV last week had a squad of 21 and it’s hoped that this continues to be the state of play going forward. New Captain Ben Conroy has brought a great team spirit to the side and the future is now looking bright for the mighty twos.

And as always contact Gavin Lynch (07554 494262) if you are free for a run out with the league leading mighty Twos
Annan 2nd XV Squad: R. Brown, I.Thorburn, M. Duncan, B.Conroy, D. Lockerby, J. Park, D. Kerr, B. Sweeney, L. Johnstone, M. Thompson, D. Ferguson, E. Campbell, R. Barlow, A. Carmichael, F. Laurie, N. Graham, A. Graham, S. Muir, C. Henderson, R. Armstrong and C. Grant

WARRIORS START THEIR RUN OF 5 HOMES MATCHES IN 6 WEEKS

After playing only 1 match at home so far in the league, the Annan Warriors finally get some matches at Violetbank as they host league leaders Garioch Ladies at Violetbank on Sunday.

This is the first match of 3 in a row that will be at Violetbank, then an away trip to Stewartry Sirens followed by 2 further home matches.

The match on Sunday though will be the toughest of the season as they take on high flying Garioch Ladies who sit at the top of the table with 5 wins from 5.

The Warriors and Garioch have met 3 times in the past. The Warriors winning the last 2 encounters back at the start of 2018 while Garioch won the first meeting at Violetbank back in 2016,

So this is the first time the clubs will have met for 18 months and so it will be an intriguing encounter.

Garioch will go into the match as big favourites due to their current form, but the Warriors at home are always a tough nut to crack and the Warriors always put on a great performance and another one on Sunday could be what the Warriors need to move themselves to mid table in the league

And if Warriors Kim Taylor and/or Mal McGeoch take to the Violetbank pitch on Sunday, they will be the first Warriors to reach 50 appearances in Warriors colours in league or cup matches!  Only 53 league or Cup matches have been played by the Warriors since the formation in 2015. Congratulations to Mal and Kim on this achievement

As always a big loud Annan support would be most appreciated.

Players to meet at 11.30pm for the 1pm KO

Annan Warriors XV Starting Team: 1 Ashley Clark, 2 M Alexander, 3 J Dalgliesh, 4 N Barnes, 5 M Muir, 6 A McWilliam, 7 L Glendinning, 8 K Warrick, 9 N Barlow (c), 10 M McGeoch, 11 M Ker, 12 C Barnes, 13 C O’Connell, 14 K Barlow, 15 K Taylor

Annan Warriors XV Subs: 16 R Peacock, 17 L Moffat, 18 E Jardine, 19 E Henderson

U14 TIGERS AWAY TO MOFFAT RAMS

On Sunday the undefeated U14 Moffat Rams travel to near neighbours and friends Moffat Rams for the 2nd Galant Conference B match of the season

The U14 lads are in good form and after beating Stewartry and Newton Stewart in recent weeks, they will be wanting to add another local scalp as they play Moffat Rams.

Matches in the past have always been high scoring affairs with 10-15 tries the norm, so you are alway guaranteed to see some high paced free flowing rugby when the Tigers and Rams meet.

After this match its another local derby as the Tigers host Stewartry the following Sunday at Violetbank and then away to Newton Stewart the following week. Some big matches coming up!

Best of luck to all the teams this weekend.
