ANNAN U16 GIRLS AT WIGTOWNSHIRE

SRU U16 GIRLS BOWL
30TH JANUARY 2022

MATCH REPORT FROM COACH BILLY HENDERSON

On Sunday 30th January at Wigtownshire, the U16 Hornets played 3 matches against Galloway A, Galloway B and Ayr and won all 3 matches.

Good play and workrate and some thumping tackles but a few dropped balls and forward passes to iron out.

Also a few rules changes to contend with but pleasing to see a few planned moves off the back of the scrum work and especially a rehearsed line out move with resulted in a try. We will discuss the moves training this week and tweek a little.

Good attitude all day. I hope the girls keep that we we are under the cosh and getting beaten in future games.

Ayr were a good example today when we were on top and winning well but they didn’t start bickering amongst themselves and gave up – no they kept plugging away and helped each other and improved as the game went on. Much respect to the Ayr Girls.

TODAY’S TEAM

Sophie Richardson – Not had many games but grew in confidence and powered through for her first try.

Captain Niamh Ross – Marshalled the team well all day, out-rucked larger opponents when required and scprer of numerous tries.

Ellie Smith – Probably top scorer on the day and great effort at being last tackler on a few occasions – hammering them into touch.

Adya Chiercha – Impresses me every game she plays. Not the flash scorers but the unthanked work in the rucks and gaining hard yards. What annoys me at rugby is when the ball is loose in the floor and girls just look at it. Today Adya was on the ball sharp and took a nasty knock to the cheek for her efforts.

Heidi Jamieson –  Small video shows her making a break. Improves every game and great carrier. No complaints about her effort – well done.

Sofia Bell – Worked well all day. Biggest leap seen in awhile to get her try and today with ball in hand made good yards by keeping pumping the legs. Again, well done.

Hannah Colledge – Awesome. My M.O.M. Strong carrier and numerous crunching tackles. Tackled the toughest opponent today – both went down but Hannah up first. Keep it up.

Eva Graham – Saved Eva to last. Impressive, held her own in the scrum against out best opponent. In the lineout won a lot of ball and main person in our wee lineout move. Alway a tough cookie on the pitch

Keep it up girls and lets work on our weaker points.  Next games away at Ayr on the 13th February
