ANNAN U14 GIRLS v BIGGAR U14 GIRLS

FRIENDLY
29TH JANUARY 2023

MATCH REPORT FROM COACH JAMES CABLE

On Sunday 29th January the U14 Hornets welcomed Biggar U14 Girls to an overcast and chilly Violetbank.

With good turnouts for both clubs, a 13 a side, full pitch game was decided upon. With conditions underfoot that can only be described as heavy and a full pitch game, this would be a test of endurance for both sides.

With the Hornets winning the toss the game kicked off, with good hands and some excellent rucking the Hornets were first on the scoreboard with a try followed by an well executed conversion. The Hornets had scored two tries unanswered until Biggar got into their stride and scored from a run from their own 22 and the game was on!

The Hornets played a very physical game scoring a total of 5 tries in the first half and Biggar scoring 3

Halftime score: Annan 33 – Biggar 22.

Biggar came out fighting in the second half and put two tries past the Hornets in quick succession, taking Biggar in front for the first time in the game, albeit by 3 points!

With end to end rugby the lead would shift several times throughout the second half, both sides having to dig deep but with some great individual performances and the best team performance to date the Hornets finished the game victorious.

Final score: Annan  64 – Biggar 57

A great performance from the Hornets, in particular Anna, kicking conversions for the first time in a match, converted 90% of them!

The team’s player of the match was a very difficult decision with so many girls having a great game. Maddy was chosen for her phenomenal work rate throughout the game.

Warriors choice of players of the match- Annan’s Eva and Biggar’s Sophie.
