MARR 3RD XV v ANNAN 2ND XV.
TENNENT’S WEST RESERVE DIVISION 3 (SOUTH)
11TH SEPTEMBER 2021
Match Report from: Gary “Tag” Coupland
On Saturday 11th September, 2021, Annan 2nd XV travelled to Troon tom take on Marr 3rd XV in their first league fixture of the season.
With only 15 players available to travel and a number also called up to the 1st XV, this was going to be a hard ask for the boys against a strong and well drilled Marr outfit and so it turned out to be with the home side dominating in most facets of open play, with Annan’s strongest point being their scrummage.
This combined with the fact a number of the boys had to play out of position or had not trained regularly with the others, led to the home side exploiting indecision and lack of cohesion to ruthless effect.
Annan’s case not being improved when they were reduced to 13 following Callum Smiths withdrawal due to a head knock and Malcolm Duncan, arm injury.
Then further exacerbated when Coll Irving was yellow carded for poor discipline.
That said the boys enjoyed their trip to Troon many of them playing at this level for the first time since joining the Club or transitioning from the youth section.
Man of the match on the day was winger Duncan Smith.
With a number of league games coming up its hoped the boys can make the effort to get to training over the coming weeks.
Team: Craig Bell, Murray Forbes, Aiden Craik, Thomas Martindale, Craig Bell, Coll Irving, Callum Smith, Kieron Watret, Ben Conroy, Josh Burgess, Duncan Smith, Malcom Duncan, Ewan Campbell, Jack Ogilvie, Alex Jones.
