GALLOWAY 2ND XV v ANNAN 2ND XV.

TENNENT’S WEST RESERVE DIVISION 3
26TH NOVEMBER 2022

Match Report from: BILLY HENDERSON

Annan 2nd XV travelled to Stewartry with a squad of 18 players ranging from old with vast experience to young and very green.

On a very wet and windy day, the Galloway XV  – players from the all the Galloway clubs plus 1 from Dumfries – started off with the wind on their backs battering away at the Annan line.

For most of the half the Annan team tackled well but gaps did appear and Galloway scored a few tries.

Half time score: Galloway 45 v Annan 0

2 subs were used in this half and the remaining 1 early in the 2nd half.

In the 2nd half Annan had a bit more ball and territory and restricted Galloway to just 1 more try. One more injury meant Galloway gave us a player to keep it 15 a side.

Full time score: Galloway 50 v Annan 0

No issues with the team’s commitment to the cause – just a bit green. Well done Coach Logan for rustling up a full squad and subs once again.

A thank you to the ref. He left his home north of Glasgow at 9am so as to get here in time. I thought he reffed fairly. Galloway were getting away with a lot of squint throws at the lineouts. He said we could do the same, only problem was we didn’t get many awarded to us. Thanks Ref. 🙂

Saturday was a special day for Stewartry as they were celebrating the life of Adam “Pinky” Gray  – ex player/coach and SRU official.

As is they way nowadays, most people disappeared after the game but myself and Tam stayed for a couple of shandies and had a chat with Adams widow to express how much respect we at Annan had for him.

The Stewartry club players had went for a meal together after training on Thursday to set the mood for the weekend ahead – I think they did – so well done Stewartry for a fitting Saturday
