CARTHA CLAYMORES V ANNAN WARRIORS.

TENNENT’S WEST REGION LEAGUE 1
28TH AUGUST 2022

Match Report from: Colin “Choc” WARRICK

The Warriors heading to Cartha Claymores for their 1st away game of the season after a week off from league action due to Oban Ladies being unable to fulfil the fixture, knowing that this fixture would be a step up from the opener against a far more experienced team many of which had previous Womens Premiership experience.

With no fewer than 9 of the squad of 18 playing in their first game away from Violetbank spirits were still high, the game kicked off at a pace with Cartha going on attack from a turnover to score a quick try out wide which was swiftly followed by a second soon after.

This blip seemed to give the Warriors a kick start & they started to get into the game but the more physical opposition were able to snuff out the attacks when they were a bit more clinical at rucks.

Although Annan threatened the line on occasion Cartha scored a further 4 tries to take the half time score to Cartha Claymores 34 v Annan Warriors 0

The 2nd half was far more competitive with the Warriors for large periods meeting fire with fire only to be outdone by a couple of lapses either at rucks or a missed tackle allowing Cartha to score 4 tries in the 2nd half to take final score to Cartha Claymores 60 v Annan Warriors 0.

All in all a tough day at the office but still positives to be taken going forward into training & this Sunday’s game against Hamilton, with the big works in ruck security & defence realignment the main areas of concern.

But considering the learning curve a lot of the players are on execution errors are always expected, with the desire to keep going & work hard pleasing to see.

Standouts in the forwards were Megan Muir, Holly Clark & Ashley Clark with forward of the match going to Rhianna Parker – Clevett.

In the backs captain Nicole Barlow led from the front, centre Joanne Clark made some big carries & is improving in her new position but back of the match went to stand off Lexie Glendinning.

This week sees Hamilton Ladies visit Violetbank for the first time with the Warriors keen to continue the improvement individually & as a team.
