The Warriors continued their West 2 campaign on the road against an unbeaten Cartha Queens Park side.

The 22-strong Annan squad started well and after some good phase play, opened the scoring with the first try of the day as Jane Haren finished well in the corner.

Cartha responded quickly, using their strong, direct forward play to crash over and level the score.

Annan struck back. Scrum-half Niamh Ross spotted an opportunity from the back of a scrum and handed off to Kirsty Barlow who scored near the posts. Barlow crossed again not long after, finishing off from another good scrum.

Kirsty went on to add two more tries, taking her personal tally to four and rightly earning the Sword (Attacker) of the Match.

A solid platform was set all afternoon by the Warriors’ forwards, who provided quick ball and interlinked well with the backs.

That pattern repeated throughout the game, allowing Annan to run in a total of 11 tries. Kirsty Barlow (4) Jane Haren (2) Lexie Steel (1) Elise McMorran (1) Erin Ewing (1) Lexie Glendining (1) and lastly, Megan Phillips-Craig (1) who marked her Warriors debut in style. Starting at centre, she not only crossed for her first try but also produced a series of dominant tackles that limited Cartha’s attack, earning her the Shield (Defender) of the Match and opposition player of the match.

Special mention also goes to Lexie Glendining and Julie Warrick who were tireless at the breakdown – disrupting Cartha’s rucks, slowing their ball, and stealing possession throughout the contest.

It was a true squad performance, with all 22 players contributing and the bench maintaining the same high standard of play.

Cartha themselves scored two well-worked tries, finishing well whenever they entered Annan’s 22. Despite the final scoreline, the game was keenly contested in midfield, and both sides contributed to an entertaining match.

Finally, a big thank you to Cartha for their warm hospitality, which was second to none.
