CARLISLE U16 BOYS v ANNAN U16 BOYS
FRIENDLY
4TH DECEMBER 2022
Match Report from: Coach Kieron Watret
On Sunday, Annan U16 Boys popped over the border to their Cumbrian neighbours Carlisle for a friendly game of rugby.
With 13 keen lads looking to carry on from the good performance they had put in from the previous match and with the help of a couple of Carlisle players, two teams of 15 made it onto the park.
Coming up against a well drilled Cumbrian team, Annan held their own with strong scrum and hard running, with outstanding tackles from Daniel, Oban, Nate and Rohan.
Thought every boy tackled to a high standard, line-outs went well with Ollie stepping up to his first game at hooker and throwing well.
As expected Kelum had some huge runs with Oban, Rohan and James G following suit.
We had two new flanker in Danny and Cameron doing well and showing even though they were the 2 smallest lads they held their own.
In the backs Harry kicked and ran well, Mason was a proper scrum half niggling at his opposite number – which almost came to blows. His papa on the sideline was probably well impressed.
Nate and Daniel tackled like boys possessed and both had some amazing runs.
Aiden had a good game on the wing stopping a few big runners getting through.
The 4 tries of the day came from 1 from the Carlisle boy who ran hard through his own teammates to score an excellent try but I think this must be a first – the other 3 Annan tries all came from the front row of Kelum, Ollie and Rohan. Two were far out with some mazy running and barging players out of the way. The other was a typical front row falling over the line. I’ll let you ask them who scored what.
Final Score: Carlisle 56 v Annan 22
I must say Annan stepped up well today even though they didn’t win – scrums were strong, they ran hard, rucking was good, chasing kicks and supporting each other was on the next level. I can’t wait to see what they can do with a full team next week.
The U16 Boys host Hamilton this Sunday at Violetbank. 2pm kick off
