31ST AUGUST 2025

Match Report from: COLIN WARRICK

The Warriors welcomed Marr Ladies to a dry but breezy Violetbank for the 1st home game of the season, determined to get their league campaign back on the road after an opening game defeat by Lenzie.

The game kicked off at a pace with the Warriors opening the scoring when following some good defensive pressure winger Kirsty Barlow pounced on a loose ball to race away for the 1st of the day. This was swiftly followed by sister Nicole Jancey who scored three tries in 11 short minutes.

Bonus point in the bag the Warriors relaxed into their structure playing a good mix of tight & expansive rugby.

The tries kept on coming with further scores from Jane Haren, Kirsty Barlow & Lexie Glendinning, with Hannah Paterson adding 3 conversions

Half time score: Annan Warriors 41 v Marr Ladies 0

With a couple of changes to personal made at half time the second half started with a bang with Lexie Glendinning bagging her 2nd try, this was swiftly followed by a score from the visitors when a defensive error allowed their strong running number 13 to score.

The Warriors switched back up a gear scoring what was for the coaches try of the day, when from a well-executed lineout on their own 10 metre line the ball was moved at pace through the hands for winger Kirsty Barlow to hit the ball at full pace to raise round the remaining defender to score.

Once again, the tries started rolling in with scores coming from Lexie Glendinning, Ashley Clark, Jane Haren(2), Ellie Smith, Erin Ewing & Elise McMorran with Hannah Paterson adding 4 conversions & Niamh Ross adding 3. Special shout out to Ellie & Elise for scoring their 1st competitive try for the Warriors.

Final score: Annan Warriors 100 – Marr Ladies 5

All in all a good performance from the Warriors as the scoreline suggests. A massive number of positives but as you would expect early in the season still some work to be done. Despite the score the Marr Ladies must be given credit for continuing to give their all throughout the game

In attack the 9 & 10 of Niamh Ross & Nicole Jancey steered the Warriors ship well with Sword of the match going to number 8 Ellie Smith.
