P6-P7 MATCH REPORT FROM: Coach Paul O’Donnell

It was the second week in a row our young Tigers had the opportunity to test their skills and put their training into practice, this time hosting Stewartry at Violetbank. There were some notable absences from the squad due to school holidays kicking in on Friday but despite our depleted numbers we still had 16 players available to play 4 quarters of mixed P6/P7 rugby.

The first quarter was a pretty one-sided affair with Stewartry coming out of the starting blocks at an electric pace, starving the home side of possession and scoring several well worked tries. But just as the first period was looking like a whitewash up popped Ryan with 2 outstanding long range tries, giving his team mates a confidence boost going in to the 2nd quarter.

The Tigers defence was continually put to the test in the 2nd and 3rd quarters with Stewartry continuing to run hard and attack spaces in the home sides defence. But even with their backs up against the wall the Tigers dug deep and scored a couple of hard earned tries courtesy of Zara (1st try of the season!!) and Mason.

The 4th and final quarter of the game was the most competitive of them all. Annan seemed to find their groove and were able to really restrict the Stewartry try count. Some hard running and great support play resulted in Ryan’s 3rd try of the day and another one for Mason.

As always the Tigers enjoyed getting stuck in and are continuing to develop their skills with every game they play. A special mention has to go to Mason again this week for another huge defensive effort. The sheer volume of tackles he put in over the course of the game was nothing short of staggering.

In attack, Laurie, Jack and Ryan lead the way with a number of blistering runs that seemed to have a knock on effect on Honey who came up with the play of the day by almost running the length of the pitch just to be tackled short of the line (my money is on Honey for a try next game).

Thanks to all the parents and supporters who were in attendance, it’s great to see so many people supporting our youngsters.
