HAWICK YM WIN THE SHIELD

The annual 15-a-side challenge for the Violetbank Shield, sponsored by TN Trawlers and Murray Bell, took place in atrocious weather conditions on Saturday. Nevertheless, there was a feast of entertainment for the fans and Hawick YM were worthy winners in the end.

Annan were slow out of the blocks and, despite having a number of scoring chance, lost out narrowly to Hawick YM who scored the clinching try almost on full time.

There was a distinct improvement in Annan’s play in their other group matches as they defeated Stewartry 12-0 and Netherhall 16-0.

The Annan squad will now be looking to sharpen up before their first league match at home to Edinburgh University on 1st September.

In a keenly contested final Hawick YM put in a tremendous performance to defeat Langholm 8-0 with one try and one penalty.
