WIGTOWNSHIRE U16 BOYS v ANNAN U16 BOYS

FRIENDLY
30TH APRIL 2023

Match Report from: Coach Murdo Bruton

On Sunday the Annan boys travelled the length of the A75 to Wigtownshire for a friendly fixture and the final game of the season.

Before we even start this report id like to thank each and every one of the parents and supporters who screamed and shouted and carried the boys through this game from the first whistle to the final one. I’m sure there will be a few sore throats tomorrow.

The Lads all jogged out onto the field with confidence in their heads and fire in their bellies. The first fifteen minutes of the game saw the boys size up their opposition with some hard running and heavy tackles. Once settled in the lads went to work, breaking up the opposition defense capitalizing with a try from Harry Nordon and a conversion from Mason Gibb.

Shortly after this Wigtownshire dug in and returned a score against the boys who seemed to become extremely complacent, however, not to let this bring them down Annan replied with a very clean score from Kelum Smith in the corner, Kelum went on to score a further two tries for a hattrick.

Wigtownshire answered again very quickly and leveled the score line. Both teams fought away but Annan were able to put their hard work into points on the scoreboard. Daniel Faulkner broke the defensive line when an overlap was spotted and burst in for his first try after being out for most of the season with a broken wrist.

No trademark try from Rohan Cother today, but a score in the corner from a heavy run in from outside the twenty two carrying a few passengers on his way in.

The Annan boys then had their tails up and knocked a few more points onto the score board through some great running and very impressive offloading while on the move.

From never having played a game of rugby before to scoring in the corner in his forth game ever Mason Sibbring was running some seriously strong angles today showing promise for the future. Ollie Hamilton utilizing his strong and fast running style put two scores on the board from way out beyond the opposition twenty-two both times.

Kicking for goal was shared amongst the lads today with Harry Nordon, Rohan Cother, Mason Gibb and even the hooker James Farrall had a go.

A massive switch up of the team from the usual set up but the lads showed willing and came away with a strong win ending the game fifty one to twelve. Very proud of the boys today they worked extremely hard, played out of position and gave absolutely everything out there.

Great finish to the season for the lads.
