OBAN LORNE LADIES V ANNAN WARRIORS.

TENNENT’S WEST REGION LEAGUE 1
23RD OCTOBER 2022

Match Report from: Colin “Choc” WARRICK

The Warriors headed off to Oban on Saturday evening for their longest road trip of the season staying overnight before returning home after the game.

After struggling for numbers last week the Warriors travelled 17 strong but again with or 2 players having to play out of positions.

The home team started strongest receiving the kick off & utilising their big strong runners to make ground. With from one of these breaks they opened the scoring which was soon to be followed by a 2nd both of which were converted.

Oban continued to apply pressure with Annan struggling to show any cohesion & keep the ball, this resulting in Oban scoring another 3 tries.

The Warriors finally managed to gain some possession with some good carries from Hannah Paterson & Becki Nelson gaining ground for the ball to shipped wide with number 8 Ashley Clark picking up from the back of a ruck to score in the corner.

Half time score: Oban 35 v Annan Warriors 5

The 2nd half kicked off with the Warriors trying to hold onto more of the ball & get their game going.

However it wasn’t to be with the home team scoring another 4 tries with 3 of them being converted.

Unfortunately for Annan prop Megan Cother had to leave the field & subsequently take a trip in an ambulance to A & E with a back injury before travelling home after being assessed.

A tough day once again but as always positives to be taken, with more to work on at training before the next game.

Best in the forwards were Ashley Clark, Megan Cother & Becki Nelson with forward of the match going to Hannah Paterson.

In the backs Captain Nicole Barlow lead from the front ably assisted by back of the match Joanne Clark.

Annan now have a week off ahead of the last run of league games, so a good chance for players to recover from a few niggles.

Special thanks to Micky Morrison & Ollie the dog who made the trip up to support via kayaking trip to Loch Lomond who stayed to bring team manager Tracy Whiteside & Megan Cother home after their trip to hospital.
